Orthodontics art of aligning the teeth and the jaw

Orthodontics is the specialized science of dentistry that is concerned with alignment of the teeth. Crooked teeth, protruding teeth, extra or missing teeth and poorly aligned jaws can create a problem called malocclusion. The orthodontist (the dentist who specializes in orthodontic treatment) has as her job the correction of malocclusions by using appliances known as braces. Braces apply gentle pressure to teeth, moving them slowly to their proper positions in the jaws. The orthodontist also is concerned with alignment of the teeth as they relate to the jaw bones, how the jaw bones relate to each other, and how the teeth and jaw bones relate to the facial features. In some cases, in addition to braces, surgical procedures may be used to position the jaws correctly. Orthodontics is a combination of methods producing tooth alignment in harmony with facial form.Beautiful young woman with brackets on teeth eating apple
